Notice of Voter Registration Opportunity: Saturday, July 29, 2023
Time: 9:00AM-10:00AM
Location: Community Hall Porch
PLEASE NOTE: The voter registration previously announced for Saturday, July 22 from Noon-1PM is cancelled — and rescheduled for July 29 from 9AM-10AM.
The Annual Meeting of the Northport Village Corporation will be Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. The current plan is to conduct the meeting as an open air meeting in the area of the basketball court, weather permitting.
To vote at the meeting you must: [See Charter, Northport Village Corporation, P.&S.L. 1915, ch. 136, sec. 12] be over 18 years old and:
- Reside within the geographic limits of the Village and be a registered voter in the town of Northport; or
- Own land in fee simple within the geographic limits of the Village; or
- Occupy land under a lease in perpetuity from the Northport Wesleyan Grove Campmeeting Association.
If you satisfy any of these conditions and don’t know whether the records of the village show you as a qualified voter (for example if you are a new property owner), please come to the porch at the Community Hall on Saturday, July 29, 2023 between 9:00AM – 10:00AM to register.
Please bring a copy of your deed or other documentation which shows your qualification. If there has been no change in your status as an owner or qualified voter, you do not need to re-register.
The Overseers have noticed that some owners, for business or estate planning purposes, have transferred their property out of their individual names and placed the ownership in the hands of a trust or limited liability company (“LLC”). Please be aware that when that is done only the manager, operator, or trustee would qualify to vote at the annual meeting. The beneficial owners of such entities would not qualify under the Charter because they are not owners of a fee simple interest.
You may also contact the Village Office during office hours to confirm your registration or register beginning at 5:30 p.m. on the evening of the annual meeting until 6:00 p.m.
