The annual election of Overseers and Officers takes place at the Annual Meeting on Tuesday, August 11th at 6PM.
Each year the Nominating Committee solicits candidates to serve on the board and as officers. The Nominating Committee consists of the following people: Blair Einstein, William Cressey, Judy Metcalf, Joe Reilly, and Amanda Hickman.
The Nominating Committee submits three candidates for election to leadership positions, as follows:
To fill the role of Overseer (3 year term) we nominate Sharon McCullough:
Sharon’s Candidate Statement:
This is my 44th summer in Bayside, the 5th in our cottage at George and Clinton after nearly 40 years as a renter. I own an event planning company and work with higher education and non-profit organizations and volunteered for the Bayside Centennial planning committee back in 2014. Since then, I have been on the program committee for Bayside Arts and for the past year have been vice president. My husband Bruce and I live in Philadelphia, but plan to spend more and more time in Bayside.
I have served on several boards during my career including the congregational council of my church, the Woodlands Cemetery and Mansion, a local farmers market, and our neighborhood arts league. I am honored to be asked to be an overseer and hope to bring my planning and organizational skills to assist the Northport Village Corporation.
To fill the role of Overseer (3 year term) we nominate Michael Tirrell for re-election:
Michael’s Candidate Statement:
I have served on the Board of Overseers since 2019 and currently serve on two board committees: Safety and Personnel. The Safety Committee in the Annual Report details much of what the committee looks at from time to time. But among other tasks in my capacity as Safety Chair, I have the annual nail-biting pleasure of recruiting lifeguards to staff the waterfront in a national hiring environment of severe lifeguard shortages. That enormously fun process kicks off in the February/March timeframe and typically comes down to the wire in or around June. Nothing beats the adrenaline high of that, though I hope to get the chance to top it someday.
Additionally, I have managed the communications function for the Overseers for a number of years — including the website on a daily/weekly basis and the production of the Annual Report — a process known to some of us as herding cats.
Also, if you don’t already know, the village website is a combination of static/fixed content detailing village governance and specifics, plus the more frequent and regular announcements and updates about committee meetings, timely issues, and other matters. All communications from the village distributed via Dan Webster begin as posts on the village website, which are then forwarded by me or Diana Eastty to Dan for distribution as written.
As a last note: I created the Donuts and Dialogue forums a few years ago and continue to moderate most of those events, which provide more interactive and topical opportunities for village residents to hear detailed updates on board and committee work in progress — and to ask questions, give feedback, and/or detail their objections. Some folks come to offer praise too — and though hardly necessary or sought, is sometimes as rare and welcome as spotting a whale tail in the bay.
To fill the role of Treasurer (3 year term) we nominate Wendy Huntoon for re-election:
Wendy’s Candidate Statement:
I have served as NVC’s Treasurer for two terms, starting in 2020. Over the past year, in collaboration with the NVC Overseers, Officers and Staff, I have focused on streamlining NVC’s financial functions and procedures, identifying financial activities that can be assumed by NVC’s office manager or finance manager as well as completing the annual audit in a timely manner. Working with NVC’s Overseers, the amount of tax raised in 2025, 2026, and proposed for 2027, has remained flat. If re-elected, I will continue this work as well as reviewing and streamlining the budgeting process for the Sewer and Water Departments.
