Safety Bulletin – July 2nd

Safety Bulletins are distributed in the summer season to highlight important public safety issues.

The July 2nd Safety Bulletin is available here — and copied below:

Bayside Safety Bulletin – July 2, 2025

Lifeguard Coverage

Though a nationwide lifeguard shortage continues to impact many coastal areas, Bayside will have seven-day-a-week lifeguard coverage again this summer. Danielle Hicock returns this year and will work 4 days weekly, including weekends. And joining us as a new lifeguard is Aiden Huck, who has been coming to Bayside with his family for years and has experience lifeguarding at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center – home of the Swimming Hall of Fame. Aiden will lifeguard in Bayside three days each week. A lifeguard will be on duty continuously this summer beginning on July 4 – from 10AM thru 6PM, with a half hour lunch break at midday.

Dock Safety

Swimming, jumping, and diving from the wharf is allowed only from the front of the wharf – the side with the wharf ladder – and from the swim float down the ramp from the main wharf. Please note: On busy days, swimmers often crowd the path that boats take to the boat float. Lifeguards will watch that pattern closely and warn swimmers – especially children diving off the dock – to keep clear of the boat path. Also: Bikes, scooters, skateboards etc. are prohibited on the wharf!

Emergency Services: Police & Fire

Again this year, Bayside will not have village-provided police coverage due to the difficulty in recruiting seasonal police patrol personnel. Many Maine cities and towns are coping with a shortage of qualified candidates to fill open police positions, and our one seasonal position has become difficult to fill. If you need to report an emergency, please dial 911 and you will be routed to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department. For non-emergency calls, please call the Sheriff’s Office at: 207-338-2040.

More Emergency Services information is available here.

Fireworks in Bayside

Fireworks are banned in Bayside. The Town of Northport’s Fireworks Ordinance states: No person shall use, possess with the intent to use, sell, possess with the intent to sell, or offer for sale consumer fireworks within the geographic limits of the Northport Village CorporationPlease tell your guests and renters.

About Fires in Bayside

State law and local ordinances severely restrict and/or require permits for fire pits and recreational fires. Bonfires (fires larger than 2’ in diameter or with flames higher than 2’) require both a permit from the Town of Northport and permission from the NVC Overseers.  Please refer to the Fire Ordinance for specific information, which is available here.
