Bayside and the town of Northport will hold a joint community workshop as part of the process of applying for grant funding from the state through its Community Resilience Partnership (CRP) program.
The workshop will be held at the Northport Fire Station at 16 Beech Hill Road on Monday, June 12 at 6PM. The public is invited to attend; food & refreshments will be served.
This community workshop is a vital part of the grant process and residents are urged to attend to offer input to help bolster the grant writing efforts of the combined village and town team. A key priority is action areas to increase resilience to natural disasters and weather-driven events like rainstorms, coastal flooding, coastal erosion, and exposure to extreme heat and cold.
The community workshop will also elicit ideas about increasing energy efficiency and lowering energy
costs for residents — as well as village and town operations.
The first grant application will focus on the engineering and design costs for shoreline stabilization of Auditorium Park and Bayview Park Beach, as well as possibly some areas along Shore Road.
Background information on the CRP loan program is available from the May 13 meeting notes of the Infrastructure Committee — see those here.
According to Celine Bewsher, Chairperson of the Infrastructure Committee: “The June 12th community workshop is the start of an ongoing dialogue with village and town residents to help us prioritize the necessary steps for building community resilience to weather-driven events, and natural disasters — and to preserve our shoreline for generations to come. Also, we are exploring other funding opportunities at the state and federal levels — so public participation in the June 12th workshop is critically important.”
