Opening of the Nomination Process for NVC Moderator, Officers and Overseers for the Annual Meeting

The Northport Village Corporation Nomination Committee announces the opening of the nomination process for election of certain Officers and Overseers of the NVC as well as for the Moderator for the Annual Meeting (to be held on August 9, 2022).  More specifically, as discussed below, nominations are being sought for Moderator, Clerk, and three Overseers.

Eligibility:  Nominators and nominees for election must be at least 18 years of age, reside in and/or own property within the boundaries of the NVC, and/or occupy property under a lease in perpetuity from the Northport Wesleyan Grove Campmeeting Association.

Moderator:  The election of a Moderator to preside at the Annual Meeting is the first order of business at the Meeting.  The Moderator regulates the business of the meeting and decides questions of order, is the chief election officer in charge of the polls and makes the declarations of every vote, and may prescribe rules of procedure (though such rules may be altered at the meeting).  Nominations for Moderator are currently being sought.  Anyone interested should contact the Nomination Committee.

Overseers:  The seven Overseers (the Board) are the general municipal officers and have charge over the management and affairs of the NVC, including financial.  Board meetings are held once a month, usually on a weekend, but additional meetings are added as necessary.  Overseers may chair or serve on various committees such as Communications, Finance, Governance, Infrastructure, Personnel, Safety, Tree, Utilities, and Waterfront Safety.  Term of office: 3 years.  Nominations for three Overseer positions are currently being sought, two for the full three-year term and one to finish out the term of a resigned Overseer that expires in August 2023.  Anyone interested should contact the Nomination Committee.

President:  The President is the chief executive officer of the NVC and carries out the instructions of the Board, including oversight of the employees of the NVC, appointing committees and acting on behalf of the NVC at times of emergency.  The President presides over meetings of the Board, and, in the event of a tie, casts the deciding vote.  Term of office: 3 years.  The current President serves through August 2024, so no nominations for this position are currently being sought.

Clerk:  The Clerk must be a resident of the State of Maine.  The Clerk has custody of the corporate seal and legal documents of the NVC.  The Clerk records and distributes the minutes of the Board and the Annual Meeting.  The Clerk has a number of functions relating to the Annual Meeting, including the preparation and posting of various warrants, notices and ballots, voter lists, poll workers, and swearing in of those elected.  Term of office: 3 years.  Nominations for Clerk are currently being sought.  Anyone interested should contact the Nomination Committee.

Treasurer:  The Treasurer is the chief financial officer of the NVC whose responsibilities include the receipt and recording of all monies acquired by the NVC, the dispersion of monies as directed by the Overseers, and accounting of those transactions.  The Treasurer reports regularly to the Board and to the NVC at its Annual Meeting. Term of office: 3 years.  The current Treasurer serves through August 2023, so no nominations for this position are currently being sought.

Procedure for Nomination:  At this time, any eligible person may nominate himself or herself or any other eligible person for any available position (except that any person nominated for Clerk must be a resident of the State of Maine) by contacting the Nomination Committee (see below).  During July and August, the Nomination Committee may also search out eligible candidates, especially if no one has been nominated for a given position. Therefore, the Nomination Committee would appreciate being notified by those who wish to run for election or who wish to nominate others as soon as possible.  The Committee will try to contact those nominated by others in order to ascertain their acceptance of the nomination.

Nominations and acceptance of nomination should be submitted, in writing, to the chair of the Nomination Committee, Blair Einstein, at einstein@toast.net or 24 Bay Street, Northport, ME 04849.

The names of verified nominees will be announced at the Annual Meeting. In addition, at the Annual Meeting, any eligible person may nominate himself or herself or any other eligible person for any available position, except that the person nominated for Clerk must be a resident of the State of Maine.  Seconds are not required.
